Edward Cullen Chanelling James Dean

The styling of the character Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie was obviously taken from James Dean.

Above is the commemorative US stamp honoring James Dean. Coincidence that it looks like one of the official images of Edward Cullen? Hmmmm…

The signature Ray-Ban wayfarers.

The hair.

I like him more when he was Cedric Diggory.

I wish they didn’t kill his character. Sana si Ron na lang.

Philippine Fashion Week 2009 Spring Summer Holaboo

I saw the FIP gang a couple of days ago in the Halloween party. I came so underdressed — like an outfit straight from the gym. As John said “Anong custome mo? Tindera ng DVD sa St. Francis” LMAO. We were discussing about the recent fashion week. Sorry, no pictures of half naked men and women this time. I only attended one show because I was busy somewhere south of Luzon archipelago.

So, one of our friends, let’s call him “F” was apparently banned from the PFW shows from here on and then. According to sources F was seated in the first frow.  He was in Anna Wintour outfit complete with hair and a Balenciaga bag. During the curtain call at the end of the show wherein the all models make their final walk, F stood up  and followed the models as if he was part of the show but instead making the exit to the other stage he went straight out of the exit of SMX in a diva walk. It was a riot I heard. The audience was laughing. I bet it was hilarious but the organizers were not amused. Just hearing about it makes me wish I was there.

The thing is even if F was banned he could always disguise himself easily.

Project Runway Philippines: Pilot Episode

I am not going to do a recap because they are available at Wikipedia and BaklaAko.com. Instead here are my observations from the pilot episode. I felt bored the first time I watched it so I had to watch it again (they have reruns).

  • Teresa Herrera did a good job hosting the show.
  • Cute si Eli. (sorry girls, I don’t think he is rooting for our team.)
  • Editing and shots were not bad. They’re pretty good to be honest.
  • No contest for models unlike in the original PR version
  • The designers were given only portable machines. Ang 3rd world naman. I know Brother is the sponsor but Brother produces industrial sewing machines too, right? There is a big difference between using industrial and portable sewing machines. There are fabrics that is very difficult to sew in portable machines. Speed is also compromised and portable machines have to be oiled everyday. Industrial sewing machines are more professional.
  • We’d like to hear more from Joji Lloren. His advice is more technical than those of Tim Gunn. I think Joji is great.
  • More design oriented shots/comments and less drama please.
  • Teresa Herrera’s version of “auf wiedersehen” was “Ingat”? Lol. She din’t say “paalam” but I heard her say “ingat”.

Now for the controversies, a reality TV show is no good without the controversies.

  • Aries & Veejay - both have showed in Philippine Fashion Week, have done various spreads for various magazines, either won/finalist in design competition and both are recent members of the Young Designers Guild of the Philippines. Eli mentioned that the slot should have been given to other undiscovered designers. In the US version of PR, contestants have already worked for several fashion houses like Viviene Westwood, Ralph Lauren, Alexander McQueen etc. But the industry there is different from the industry here. I think I would agree with Eli on this one, don’t get me wrong I love Veejay (lol, si Veejay lang) but they have already the access to some of the prizes – fashion spread in a magazine and showing your work at Phil. Fashion Week. Although I think the main reason they joined is the prize, the money could perhaps help to expand the business.

Everyone also seems to hate Aries. He is really like that in person. Hehe. He was my teacher in FIP and know him pretty well. I don’t hate him tho’. He is like fungus, just grows on you. Undeniably he is also very talented specially in construction techniques which also he undeniably learned from Sir Shanon. But I will keep my mouth shut now. Haha. I bumped into him Aries last Saturday and told him he was the cattiest person in the show and he denies that he is the bad guy. Well, to borrow a quote from a friend “good for the network ratings, too bad for him.”

It was so insensitive of Aries to make that comment –”that T’iboli girl may ibubuga pala” although the comment was good in a way there was malicious intent in the way he said it. For the record too, the T’iboli ethnic group has a very rich cultural heritage. Hindi pa dumadating ang mga Kastila, “pashion” na sila. He might also be alienating prospective clients with his bitchy attitude in the show. Sometimes he is also bordering on rude specially the way he treated Loida. If Loida was my mom, I’d probably smite Aries. Hahahah. But Aries is Aries. I’ve pretty much accepted that part.

I’m rooting for Veejay and Ivan. I like that Ivan incorporates our cultural background in his works.

And HI to contestants, I know you’ve been leaving comments here. I think you guys are brave to join a show that will be grilled by the public. It really is never as easy as it looks on TV.

Martin Margiela L’Incognito Shades

Isn’t this the coolest shades ever forged?

You need a lot of attitude to wear this and a whopping 600 US$. But you know what I love more? Martin Margiela’s website. Brilliant concept.

Spotted: Filipiana Terno Sleeves at Chanel A/W 08-09 Haute Couture?

Davah?

(AP Photo/Remy de la Mauviniere)

The whole collection had very exaggerated sleeves and a bit too dark for Chanel. I like it except for the Anna Wintour hair . Wehehe.

Jum Nakao is a Brazilian based designer who creates clothes using folding and cutting paper techniques. Amazing is an understatement description for his works. They are not exactly wearable but it demonstrates the possibility of adapting these techniques to fabric. Unfortunately his official website and blog are all in his native tonque. He seems to have a fondness for exaggerated sleeves. I love how he played with our very own butterfly sleeves (also known as Philippine sleeves)

It’s not just the terno sleeves that have gotten attention in the runway. In Jean Paul Gaultier’s 2005 S/S Haute Couture show, Alex Wek walked down the catwalk wearing this frock from Ikat weave by one our local tribes:

Although the runway reviews mentioned African tribe references as inspiration for this collection. The fabric however is unmistakably woven abaca Ikat from the T’iboli tribe in Mindanao. The texture, pattern and colors are distinct of the tribe.

Quote of the Day

Kris was describing this knee Chanel high gladiator sandals to Boy Abunda.

“You know Boy the one that’s up to here (points below the knee) and with butas-butas here.”

It’s another version of “You make tusok-tusok the fishball.”

Philippine Fashion Week 2008

I borrowed my brother’s DSLR and decided to pretend a photographer. This is the first time I used a DSLR camera. Anyway, here are shots from PWF 2008. I haven’t organized all of them so just browse to your heart’s content HERE.

The photo set Men’s Wear is dedicated to my gay friends. Many complained – “ay ba’t nakadamit.” I dunno, maybe because the whole point of the show is to present nice clothes. But if they’re were all in swim wear I wouldn’t complain either.

Would someone help me identify who are these two hawwt male models?

He looks Pinoy-Brazilian-Japanese. Parang fusion cuisine. Some of his features remind me of the original Shaider. (edit: it’s AJ Winkler pala ^_^, didn’t recognize him. He also models for Bench.)

Hiroshi Tsuburaya (god bless his soul). The director of cult classic, Godzilla was his grandfather. Betcha didn’t know that, huh.

Vaness Wu, is that you?

A little sad news though. I read from Chuvaness blog there were unconfirmed reports that some models were deported because they didn’t have working permits. Didn’t see any mayhem or commotion after the show. May I suggest marry a Filipina so they won’t get deported next time. LOL. That’s of course if they’re straight. Honest observation lang, many good looking men, model type and gym addicts are gay. One of these days, women will be featured in National Geographic Magazine beside the Dodo bird and Tasmanian devil under the category “Extinct Species.”

Audrey Tautou as Coco Chanel

Audrey Tautou will portray the role of Coco Chanel in the fashion legend’s movie biopic – Coco avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel) slated to be shown early next year. The movie will be directed by Anne Fontaine and tells the story of Coco’s childhood and early womanhood.

She does look like the young Coco, noh? I’m glad they actually picked someone who’s French. Can’t wait to see this one. I wonder if Chanel will sponsor the whole wardrobe.
